SC in favor of Hadiya; will hear her version on Oct 30

The Supreme Court today again questioned the verdict of High Court in the controversial case of marriage of Hadiya (formerly Akhila) to Shefin Jahan.

The SC has expressed interest to listen to what Hadiya has to say, and said the case will be further heard on Oct 30.

While criticizing the HC on annulling the marriage of a 24-year-old MBBS student, the SC asked on what grounds the HC could do so.

Earlier the SC also criticized the parents for keeping Hadiya under forceful custody, saying parents have no right to interfere in the life of a 24-year-old.

The SC also noted that investigation related to other issues should proceed in different direction, and no court has the right to interfere in the marriage as per Section 226 of the Constitution of India.
